"LIFE IS A SONG, SING IT"
About BASPA
British American Studio of Performing Arts
BASPA was founded by Kevin Owers and Claire Jacobs. Both had been successful performers and are very excited to pass on what they had learned to other performers, of all ages, in their local community.
Kevin, the lead singing coach at BASPA, has now been teaching since 1988 and truly believes that anyone who puts in the time and effort to practice can succeed.

Our Credentials
Kevin Owers is Co-Founder and Lead Singing Coach at BASPA and was born in England and after graduating from the Guildford School of Acting commenced on a professional career that has encompassed almost every field of the performing world.
Kevin’s first professional job was in Sir Peter Hall’s acclaimed production of Benjamin Britten’s opera – ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ at Glyndebourne. He appeared several times in productions in London’s West-End including playing Sidney Cohn in ‘On Your Toes’ written and directed by the legendary George “Mr.” Abbott, Nanki–Poo in an updated version of The Mikado and a rare production of ‘South Pacific’. Kevin has a connection to Sondheim musicals, appearing in “Company” and the European Premiere of ‘Pacific Overtures’ at Manchester Library Theatre. He also appeared in ‘Yusupov’ at Oxford University, a musical that was the result of Sondheim’s year as visiting professor to Oxford.
While working in the Theatre at night, Kevin started to teach singing and musical theatre as a guest professor at several colleges around London and was responsible for a number of “Pop Show” revues. One of his vocal students at this time was Emma Bunton, "Baby Spice" of Spice Girls fame.
1997 saw Kevin following his longtime love and wife, Claire Jacobs, across the Atlantic to Los Angeles. Shortly after arriving he was offered a memorable role in the movie Titanic and subsequently has appeared in TV Shows as diverse as West Wing to Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel. He has also worked in commercials and as a voice over artist.
From 2003-2012 Kevin was on the Faculty at the American Musical & Dramatic Academy in Los Angeles teaching singing and musical theatre. Then he was a member of the drama faculty at UC Irvine and also worked at his own private studio, helping singers by preparing them for entering into the professional vocal world, whether as pop singers like Nathan Parrett (the Voice, NBC) , opera singer, Ben Finer, winner of the 2011 Omni award for young singers and Aubrey Matalon, 2018 winner of the Music center’s Spotlight, non- classical voice competition.
